Foam is one of those never ending topics. Do a search for foam and u'll find hundred of opinions and ideas... Three most popular: Blue/Pink construction closed cell foam, pool noodles, and 2 part marine closed cell pour foam.

After flipping this boat, I used about five cans to fill under the gunwales and all crevices inside the "sealed" rear chamber with white ports. I did bend some glass due to expansion of the foam but on the positive side, It did its job the next time I got the dry side down. It changed the hull from neutral buoyancy to positive.

It is easily damaged by sun but as far as I am concerned, It was an easily obtainable and relatively inexpensive ADJUNCT to the existing built-in floatation. I don't think I would have used it as primary floatation though.

The two part foam is easy to find, easy to use, and much less expensive than the stuff at the hardware store.

It depends on the boat. Some fiberglass boats boat relied on poured in foam for additional structure. Few aluminum boats did. If you don't need it for structure, the pink or blue sheet foam would make excellent flotation foam as it does not absorb water. The white stuff is horrible.

Welcome to Iboats walcat :) ..

Is the foam you can buy to fill spaces at lumber yards ok to use as flotation foam in a space in the boat?

While I dont know of any foam you can buy to " fill spaces at a lumber yard " ( that is a lot of space ;) )... ( yes tongue and cheek grammar :) )..

What "a space" do you need to fill ?? The whole underside of a deck ?? Just a little spot around here and there ??

I dont want to come off wrong..but there seems to be a lot of Vague posts lately.. ( funny how so many jump at the thread to answer when the question isnt even comprehensive enough to answer ;) ..

What is your application ....

YD.
