I went to Florida many times, but never saw boats anchored on the ocean side, near the beach. Let's say, anchored at 150' from the shore. Is it forbidden? I think it could be fun on a calm day, to just anchor there and swim or paddle to the beach.

Ocean side has many beaches with mooring balls out quite a bit further than you are thinking.Lots of coral down there which could easily make your anchor a permanent resident of the ocean floor. Charlie

Thats exactly where the moorings are!! I see them from the Pompano beach fishing pier and south through Ft.Lauderdale. If you dont know of them then you have not been there. They are in a line ,not sure how far north they go or how far south but like I said.....If you dont know of them then you have not been there. They can't be missed.Charlie

Thanks. I went there on the beach, then by boat, but we stayed on the ICW, travelling from north to the Keys. But this winter, I will go take a look there. Are those moorings property of a marina, a hotel? City?
