A forstner bit (diameter depending on the rivet flange) works great for this...start with a small pilot hole, do your recess and then open up the pilot for the rivet.I am in the process of doing a new floor in a ss16 and was curious what drill bit people use or what method works best for countersinking the rivet heads in the plywood?
Thank you. Did you fill over the rivet head with any filler then such as marinetex or jbweld? I am going to varnish my floor so I won’t have epoxy to use for a fillerA forstner bit (diameter depending on the rivet flange) works great for this...start with a small pilot hole, do your recess and then open up the pilot for the rivet.
Epoxy/cabosil filler. With the system that I use, the entire rivet is encapsulated in epoxy.Thank you. Did you fill over the rivet head with any filler then such as marinetex or jbweld? I am going to varnish my floor so I won’t have epoxy to use for a filler
That’s a great idea! Here's something I whipped up. 5/8" spade bit with a 3/16" drill shank welded in the center. Please ignore the crap weld...it works. The holes are pre drilled to 3/16".
I mixed g flex epoxy in small batches to fill the holes flush.
If I would have one of those fancy forstner bits I might have used it instead. This home made tool doesn't taper the top of the 3/16" hole. That’s a great idea!
