Finally picked up the new boat (69 Chrysler Charger 151 Hydro-Vee) and moved it here today. I found that the previous owner had made new boxes for the bases of the seats but had not bothered to bolt them down. I moved out all the seats and pulled up all the carpet and checked out the floor which was an unknown (felt solid stomping on it but didn't know what it was going to be like uncovered). I tapped it all over with a hammer and could find no moist or wet spots or rot anyplace. However, there seems to be a coating (factory coating?) that is slightly textured and thicker than paint but it is all peeled up. Since everything seems dry, I'd like to strip out this stuff and recoat the floor with something similar.

Anyone have an idea what it is exactly? It is almost like plastic coating. What can I put on as a replacement? Can I use a marine grade paint to do this or should I be looking at some kind of epoxy resin coating of some kind? So far I have not seen anything quite like this stuff on any projects or on this forum.

Also, anyone have any clue how these seats were originally based? These are back to back seats with suitcase-type latches that are supposed to allow you to fold them down flat into benches of a sort. Did the originals have some kind of track or something that they slid on? The previous owner just made plywood bases and used L brackets to screw the seats on them. I think we will get new seats eventually but for now we need to use what we have but it would be nice to know how to put them together properly.

Thanks for any help!
