I've tried multiple searches on this, and for whatever reason the term(s) involved aren't getting me close.

A buddy will be rebuilding and revising the floor of his boat this spring.

He would like to create a utility compartment in the floor. Call it a ski well if you will, but not for skis and probably not ski shaped. Squarer. :)

The question we can't seem to resolve is where one might obtain --or what one might use for-- the trim that transistions from the solid floor to the "lid".

That is, a channel that would finish the carpet on the floor, then recess into the opening so that he could then build/shape a lid for the top of the compartment that would then be flush with the floor.

If someone has some info on where to buy the stuff and how to work with it, that would be great. Even what you'd call it would be helfpul.

As I said, searches both here and on the internet in general have yielded nothing...or such a general result we don't really know how to pursue it (for example: "Floor Trim: 27 different kinds! Search here: :)).

Re: Floor Trim

THAT.... is a big pita my friend !
you can go to a used boat wreckers and get a ski locker hatch.
you can go to a good hard wars store and buy the L shaped inner edge....but the floor S shape is more difficult.
check with any boat manufacturers in your area.....they will have old stock they are getting rid of
