I have a 19' semi v jet boat. I cut out the floor it was no good. question is do I put it back how it was? where the floor meets the hull whats the best method to glass it together? what materials cloth, mat, biaxial? polyester or epoxy? here is a pic of how it was and how I think I might change it to, what do you think? if I do it the way I might change it to should I put the plastic foam sheet material between the plywood and the hull. I have never done this before and I think I am capable with research and maybe some help from the pros on here. thanks for your opinions, thoughts, and criticism

Re: floor replacement

youve got some choices to make.....first of all....the type of ply to use.....

marine ply is best......but expencive and hard to find...pressure treated is great as it wont rot for years....but there is some problems with it as far as chemical reactions with metal and it is allways wet when you get it....so it needs to be dryed for at least a month...or the resin wont stick.......ext grade is cheap and good....it works well....it still needs to be dryed for a week or so....

poly or epoxy....you choose....do your home work...

as far as the cloth and matt...that depends on what you are using, poly or epoxy....bi ax is allways good.....but you only need 8 oz for the deck...and bi ax is mostly heavyer than that.

the picks and the idea are great......it is easy to grind down the underside of the deck.....but getting the shape perfect is really hard....most people shape the wood and then add peanut butter in the joint......

id suggest you read the compleated projects forum....and the hull ext in progress thread.....then hit search....and read ...read ...read....

there is a world of info here......and its all good........btw...read safety basics for grinding and glassing....its a sticky at the top of the resto forum.....

post picks....and we'll help you all we can.

cheers
