HI all,

I have a 16' Galaxy bow rider and am thinking about making a floor plan change since I have to redo the floor and transom. I would like to turn this boat into a center console if possible. My questions are :

1. Where do I purchase the center console itself from?
2. What do I do about the top deck of the boat after the change? Will the hull be ok without it?

Nick, You can purchase Center Consoles from several discount marine supply places (WestMarine, BoatUS). If you want to remove the bow seats and consoles, you will need to replace the strenght and structural stability they provide. I am not a structural engineer, and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express either, but think you need to be careful in this matter.

Square benches up front offer very little in the way of structural integrity. If you put in a raised floor in the bow (say 6" or so) you'll be adding strength rather than reducing it.

Sounds like a good mod.

Re: floor plan change

might want to take a look at my boat. it was originally a ski boat that I rebuilt as a CC flats boat. the bow and stern casting decks are glassed into stringers which are glassed into the hull. this upper support of the hull makes an extremely ridged boat.

You can always build a center console. I did as you propose, then rebuilt the boat again into something more bass friendly. It is very doable. You can click my link to see what I did...Good luck...
