Flooded engine

1995 3.0 Mercruiser 135HP<br /><br />Anyone know a trick to starting a flooded engine other than sitting and waiting for over an hour or so??

Make sure the choke is wide open, then mover the throttle to wide open and crank the engine till it starts. (Pull it back to lower rpms quickly).<br />You could also take the plugs out and dry them off.<br />Are you sure it's flooding? or just hard to start?

Definitely flooded. You can smell the gas pretty easily. Typically just waiting for quite a while will help. I was always afraid to keep cranking the engine with the throttle wide open, for fear of just making it worse.<br /><br />I used to use your trick, Don, with my old motorcycle too, just wasn't sure about where the choke is on the engine?
