I have noticed alot of post on replacing transoms on aluminun boats on this site. I was wondering if anyone has used the product seacast in replacing the wood in the transom on aluminum boats. I have a 1992 17foot tracker deep v with a 70hp johnson and have noticed the transom flexing and seperating from the splash well. I am hesitant about doing the job myself and was thinking about taking my boat to a shop to have it fixed where they use the seacast materials. I would appreciate any help or advise you have to offer.

I personally wouldn't mess with trying to put a Seacast transom in an aluminum boat. A transom replacement on a tinny isn't that big a job with wood. Properly sealed, the new wood transom should way outlast the original.

Welcome to the forum.

I think if you read through the Resto forum you will find that repairing the transom on aluminum boats is relatively easy. Not familiar with the Tracker hull but most aluminum boats the wood does not cover the full area of the transom on outboards. So it's just a matter of finding all the places where fasteners go all the way through to get those removed. Then if possible to remove the wood in one piece to use as a template.

I believe you can accomplish this yourself for much less than you think w/o alot of hard or difficult work and just some basic hand tools and a jigsaw.

Post a few pictures of what ya got and you should get some solid advice and tips.

Unless you just don't "Wanna" I would think this is a fairly easy and straigt forward DIY project. Especially with ALL the help you WILL recieve here on the forum. For less than $100 bucks and a couple of weekends of work I think you could have a New Transom that would last 20 years +.

I'm just sayin...:D

Good for you! Actually it shouldn't take more than a few days to a week to complete depending on any hidden things or snags you might find, or your available time.

Just look it over really close to get a clear idea of what has to be done and in which order and you should be fine.

If you post some pics of the inside of the transom, I KNOW you will get plenty of posts on how and what to do to get her fiexed in the fastest and best way. My signature has a method of posting pics from your PC

I'm just sayin...:D

Just remember, those guys who tell you how easy it is have already done one or more. Your results may vary on the first one ... :)
