Flappers are missing

So while replacing my leaky exhaust manifolds I noticed little holes on the Y pipe.. Well thats where the flappers go:facepalm:.. There are none.. On either side.. There is nothing. No pin either.
Makes me wonder if they got removed and never reinstalled.. I don't have any exhaust restrictions. Boat has not ran hot once..

Should I go one and replace em or go with the "not broke don't fix it" I know they are to keep the engine from hydrolocking.. Has never done that to me either, and I ran the dog out of it last summer..

You can get by without them, just no sudden stops and hope no wakes hit you hard from behind.
If it were mine and i could get to them why not replace them...It is not a hard job if you already have it apart.

if you dont replace them remember, if you do end up with waterlogged, pull the plugs before trying to start it...

You may want to pull the drive and exaust bellows and make sure the old ones are not in there. I did a repair on a OMC for a shifting problem and the old shutters were wedged against the shift lever in the piviot housing.

Re: Flappers are missing

I believe they got removed during a engine install 7 years ago.. I am not sure.. I guess I can run a magnet down there and see if something comes up... We are not in a hurry here... It's even cold here in the deep south.. Looking to be a winter storm in the morning..

Found some... $63 all parts needed shipped to the door.. Not real cheap, but better than trying to get the water out of the cylinders on the lake... huh?

A magnet probably won't catch anything, the flappers are plastic/rubber the pin is SS.

Well I checked in there again.. Nope they are gone.. I got now where I can take that outdrive off and on in less than a hour.. Perfect alignment sure makes it easy.. A outdrive cart would be nice.. I think the cobra weighs more, that or I am getting old... I got the boat singing but we are still having cool weather.. Water is about 61:( wife wont go...
