Flagging on craigslist

Here's the thing about craigslist. As far as I know, they never respond to inquiries or provide any explanation about why an ad was flagged.

I have an ad running for a new and unused item that I've had up for quite a while, renewing every few days or when I think of it, following the rules and completely legitimate. I renewed it yesterday, and this morning it had been flagged and removed.

I suspect a person who has been after me to sell it to them for a price that I consider way too low, and I've responded to their inquiries politely and said I thought I was asking a fair price. Or a person who recently wanted me to ship it to them - I declined, simply because I don't want to go to the trouble and it's too bulky to send easily.

Anyway, I googled "flagging on craigslist" and came up with this interesting short article. So if you are having good ads flagged....good luck!!

Yup, that's what I got from the "robot" to let me know it had been removed - a few links to their guidelines.

Re: Flagging on craigslist

I have had (suspect any way) guys who have competing ads flag my stuff. Very frustrating and there isn't a thing I can do about it.

One thing...

There is a scam out there that starts with an email to you saying your item has been flagged and removed and you are to click through the links in the email. You always want to go directly to your account to be sure it's actually flagged.

Right. I never click on links in email that I'm not expecting.

I have never understood why CL set up the flagging anyway, other than the author deletes his own post. I'm surprised people don't just go through CL flagging every post for the kicks of it. I've had very little trouble with flagging on items I've listed.

Re: Flagging on craigslist

I've had a handful of ads flagged over the last year or so. I'm pretty sure it happened when I refused a lowballer. If I had the software mentioned in the articel above....I'd find out the identity of the idiot flaggers and make "friendly" phone call to them. ;):p

I'm pretty sure he's just talking about something like this. You just put the html they provide in your ad and it will track and give you stats on hits. I used to use it on a photoblog I had.

extremetracking.com

I used the free one.

I'd want a program that turns the ip address into a physical address(i.e. home address). ;)

You'll never catch the hardcore flagger's on there, They are hiding behind a proxy server.
