Today is Flag Day, so if you have an American Flag, fly it proudly. If you don't keep an American Flag then today would be a good day to go out and get yourself a flag kit;)

For some of us the American Flag means a little more, as a young soldier in the deserts of the Middle East, I flew the American Flag in my soul, it was the light that filled the darkness of a long deployment in a foreign land and it was the beacon that marked the way home.

Our flag is the symbol of more than just a strong and proud nation, it's alive and fly?s through the deeds of everyday citizens. When we answer the call to serve in the military, when our sons and daughters join the local volunteer fire fighting squadron, when team up with our neighbors to clean up the local playground. When we help our fellow boaters at the boat ramp or out on the water. When we teach a kid how to fish and yes, when we vote.

So the next time you?re doing something that's bigger than yourself, look for the American Flag, it's there somewhere flying proudly, and for today...break it out for everyone to see.

And here I thought we were honoring Thomas Henry Flag, a founding father.

I have a framed US flag that was flown over USS Arizona hanging in my living room. I always have these flying proudly:

DON't fly your flag on Flag Day......fly it proudly EVERY day. I do, and my grown children do as well. I learned it from my Dad, and he from his Dad before.

After 911, flags seemed to pop up everywhere - even on cars. Sadly, the numbers have diminished.

Let's all be the example in our neighborhood. And don't forget one on your stern as well.

If you are subject to an homeowners association it would be good to check with them on the size and altitude they will allow. I have seen some outrageous stories about people being fined for flags that were too big, flown at night or on too tall poles. Ratzakratza.

Re: Flag Day

I just ordered a 20x30" flag for my stern light pole on my 18' runabout... is that too large? Should I stick with something like 12x18"?
