I've replaced some of my cover snaps that got ripped out of their holes by wind with some plumbing epoxy (the 2-color stuff you knead together into a thick putty). I stuff the hole with the epoxy (use a blunt stick of some sort like a phillips head screw driver or the hole reamer from a flat tire plug kit to get the putty deep into the hole & the top it off again), then screw the snap back into the freshly filled hole while the putty is still pliable. Leave it alone & the putty hardens up around the screw essentially making a newly tapped bore hole.
Not sure how that'd work for heavier applications or how permanent it ends up being (I haven't tried to remove the screw when done )
