 I'm a little confused, I have a few small chips in the hull of my boat and was wondering if I need to buy a complete fiberglass patch kit or can I get by with just the basic marine body filler and sealer to fix them? The chips are small and minor but look ugly to the eye. Any ideas?

unless they're very deep, you can just fill them. marine tex is commonly used, handy to have some of it laying around for small projects like this. it's an off-white, sand and buff and should be looking pretty good.

or, if the color bothers you, you could get a gel coat kit instead and try to match the color of your hull better. spectrum is one company, iboats may have some. i never looked for that here before.
