Hi All,
I need some expert advice. I currently have a 1996 20" Maxum boat and an Escort trailer. The trailer is not in bad shape but some it has gone into some disrepair and probably needs new tires, new bearings/bearings repacked, a new breakaway chain, new tongue since the one now is rusted and the place where you put the brake fluid in the tongue is rusted out inside. I am not sure how much this will all cost vs. just buying a new trailer. Any thoughts on what you would do or expected costs would be great so that I can weigh my options.
Thanks,
Bob

ok so you need tires $100... bearing repack/seals... diy under $20 and a new master cylinder $65 I think you are calling the coupler the tongue... if you are worried about the SLIGHT surface rust, clean it up with a wire brush/wire wheel and paint it. If the actual tongue of the trailer has structural rust then the whole trailer needs CLOSE inspection for the same before considering any repairs.

Does not look bad at all, 200.00 and you should be good. Btw, trailers do need some maintaince, even if you do buy a new one.

Heck even if you dropped your boat off the trailer and blasted and painted plus all the repairs you will still be ahead of a new trailer. Have you priced a trailer with brakes? Gotta be close to $2000 for brand new. I say clean and refurb what you have... if the structure is sound.

Looks like a galvanized trailer, with very minimal rust to me.

Tires maybe?
cable
Bearings serviced
If the brake system needs servicing or the couple replaced, ok

Still shouldn't be more than $500

Throw a new winch strap on, and tidy up the wiring, and you've got a functional trailer for years to come.
