it wont start if its in gear when you pull the rope start but if i turn the key i dont want the starter to mesh with the flywheel if its in gear it will kill the gears
A lot o posts, get a bit confused here.
The last one first:
The manual system that prevents you from pulling the starter when in gear, block the manual starter and not the flywheel. It will then be no damage to the gears, but the boat might take off.
You may make a bracket either on engine or in the remote, with a micro switch that is connected into the red/yellow circuit to the starter solenoid. When in neutral, switch is shorted and starter operates.
If you put the switch on the engine, all cabling will be on the engine. If you prefer to arrange something in the remote, you may have to pull cables between the key switch and the remote. I little McGywer spirit and you will figure it out.
