I recently acquired a 16' Fishrite sled from my father-in-law. The boat has been sitting for several years 6-7. I cleaned it up did some work to the trailer and got it home with high hopes. The 65hp Merc and pump looked OK but the deck is a mess. I removed a few pieces of the deck easily enough and noticed the starboard side had the remnants of blown in Styrofoam and the port side had some cut and fitted pieces of Styrofoam. None of the foam looked OK, the cut pieces were saturated with water and the blown in remnant looked like it had seen it's last useful day sometime last decade. My question is: How important is this Styrofoam? The space it takes up is only 3" does this really help with boy-ency? If I must replace it is there a marines specific product that will last as long as the new deck and not soak in water?
