I am pretty amped! Dad is gifting us a trip to HH for Easter Break, excellent!:D

So, I've started doing some research. I'm learning that first week of April is sort of a shoulder season, eh? Looks like I am early for Cobia, rats.

What kind of info do you fellas have on fishing the area?

Spots? Species? Tackle? Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

Sorry, should have mentioned that at the outset.

I'll be hauling the 16' Sea Nymph. So, for the most part I'm thinking lagoons/flats/rivers. If the wind and weather cooperates I may try to sneak out to the near shore wrecks/reefs.

Inshore your best bets will probably be Red and Black Drum and Sheepshead at that time of year, maybe some Speckled Trout and Bluefish but it may be a little early for them.

Fish live shrimp next to docks and around bridge pilings. A hook, 2 or 3 feet of mono leader, a swivel, and a 1/4-1/2 oz egg sinker depending on current.

Trolling the beach out past the breakers, maybe some Blues, Spanish, and King Mackerel.

The wind will probably be blistering more days than not so I wouldn't venture too far from shore at that time of year in a small craft.

If you want to eat some of these fish, go for the Sheepshead... they're mighty fine!!!

jas;

I live 45 min from HHI. I normally fish off the Broadriver Bridge in Beaufort. It is a salt water river. And real close to the Atlantic. You can catch shark, stingray, flounder, reds, bass, and more here. I have only been here a year and do not get out much. We just got to short days at work; so I hope to get out more. Not sure what all bites at the time you will be here. If you bring a cast net you can catch your own bait and shrimp. If you do not have 1, you can use mine. Out of state saltwater license is $35 a year or $11 for 14 days. Or $35 a year and $11 for 7 days for freshwater.

At the end of April early May; I go on extended vacation. (mid July)

Hit me up when you get here and I will buy you a beer or 2.

I concede, my earlier statement MAY need a retraction :facepalm:

Maybe I'll just give it a good long soak til Presidents Day 2013 (possibly a very long boat work weekend) to see how it's coming together. Just might pull it off....

Else, any boat ya rebuilt & drag to the beach, is better then just any ole' charter or rental could ever be

even if it keeps ya WEST of the island...
