I'm gearing up for this year's springers in the Snake. Today I poured some sinkers with claws for the upcoming spring Chinook fishery. This fishing from the bank requires some serious holding type sinkers since we fish in the rapids.
Here are some pictures of the home made molds and pouring operation.
Here are the sinker molds I cut from some tapered aluminum. The wires in the foreground are placed in the molds to pour the lead around.
Heating the lead. The mold in the background in the clamps is used for making special sinkers with holes through them and possibly fly material tied on some of them.
A few sinkers poured awaiting further work.
This is what the final product will look like. The one in front has the claws bent out ready for fishing.
