More likely they are Fleet trucks. A good chunk of the fleet trucks are 2wd, I generally buy mine new from a dealer that does fleet sales as they usually have a couple "boss" trucks that have a high level of equipment. Any color you want as long as it is white ;)

I live in SE NC. Although we do not see snow except on the weather channel there are fewer 2 wheel drive trucks here than you would think. Most commercial trucks are 4 X 4 unless known to be turning to junk soon. Many pull boats and RVs. Others have simply seen how much better resale value holds up. Maybe those 2 wheel drives you see in MN are sent there as they cannot be sold in the south?

4x4, if you don't need it is just more to break, robs you of mileage (if it is fulltime), and lowers your tow rating.

but

4x4 is great in the snow for every day driving here because they are selectable and can be switched to a variation of AWD even if you are the type of person to never 'need' 4wd. At least that is how the GM's are They push 4x4 hard here. I can't imagine a commercial for a truck and it ignoring the 4x4 functionality. I can literally drive like a maniac on an ice covered lake and the combo of the front driven wheels, stability control and to some extent traction control pretty much corrects your driving. All except the stopping of course. I see a ton of trucks when I go to California and Texas...I wonder if those are 2wd?
