Newbie with boats seeing if I could pick some brains?

Looking at a 2004 Glastron 185 FS 4.3l with not many extras for around $12,500 inc trailer.
Does that sound like a ok price? I ask because I see all the Tahoes out there for much less but have read fit and finish is not great. This boat is clean and but doesnt come with much else in the way of trolling motor and bimini top ect.

My other question is the boat doesnt have the pedestals for the jump seats and I think I can find replacement pedestals but do not know how they attach to the jump seat? Do they just insert into the bottom and if so is it the 1.77" diameter that the hole in the boat uses.

I found these maybe they will work?

Attwood Swivel-Eze 29250 Anodized Aluminum 25 Inch 1.77 Boat Pedestal Post

Thanks in advance for any info you can share.

The guys at iBoats will help you with the seats and get it right the 1st time.

The '04 Glastron is overpriced. Depending on motor condition and hours along with condition of boat it is still priced high. In the spring maybe a little over $10K but not going into winter. Some areas are higher, like Canada, SD, Ca and others but most of the US would find that high

Thanks for the response, I will check out the options on this site. I did a search but I am not sure what I am trying to find so I will contact someone directly.

The boat is 1K under NADA so I was thinking it was ok. But being in MN the boats go fast so maybe that is too much.

I'm in MN. Firstly that boat is relatively low end but at least has a 4.3 which is the more capable engine that you see on smaller boats. End of the day...it's the end of the season and NADA is not a reliable indicator. This sounds to me as though it is a dealer boat given the unreasonable price. Also understand here in MN...in the top three highest tax states in the country...amazingly there are no sales taxes on private and brokered sale boats but there are sales taxes on dealer sale used boats. A private or brokered sale you only pay our egregious almost 8% sales tax on the value of the trailer which you denote at the dmv while transferring the title.

Thanks jkust- Yea I just found out about the sales tax loop hole, at least we get a brake with that. This is a private seller who says he doesnt need to sell and will store untill next year and get more. Which we all know it is a line but never the less his position. Your right about the books(Low retail is $13,830) its just I dont see much in the Fish/Ski models unless it is a Tahoe which I am unsure about. Any other boats I should be checking out in the Fish/Ski package?

If you want to fish in it then I would be looking at aluminum boats like a Crestliner. Even if they call it a fish and ski, nothing messes up a standard runabout worse than bringing fish into it.

If he waits until next spring the boat will be a year older, he will have paid storage and winterization and still get less. It has been said in this site MN pays a premium for used boats but it would need to be a huge premium for this one to go near his ask and need seats too.

Thanks to everyone for the input, if it is priced too high what would be a good offer for this boat? I dont want to over pay but I dont want to waste a bunch of time looking next year either. Thanks Again

I have a good comparison for you.

I just purchased 2002 Four Winns (Same company as Glastron) 180 Horizon fish and Ski with a Johnson 150 outboard. Mine has everything (Jump seats, Trolling Motor, Bow platform, Bow fill in cushions, Fish Finder, Live Well, Dual Battery charger, Bimini Top, Mooring cover) everytng is in like new condition. I got it for just over $9200 .

basically you are missing everything that makes yours a fish and ski. I would look up the value of non fish and ski and adjust for condition.

I would expect it to be about 9k or 10k

Here are a few pictures of mine (if you click them they will bring you to a few more pictures.

The seat poles are probably springfield (mine are) and you can get them here for a hundered or so. there are bushsing on the bottom of the jump seats that insert into the end of the pole.

Slight difference there - he is looking at a 4.3L I/O, which around here would be worth a lot more than something with an outboard on it.

so add $1K to my price and pretend its and I\O :) everything else is the same :)

All the missing pieces of the Fish and Ski are worth $1500 - $2000 at least (if you were able to purchase them from Glastron)

Re: Fish/Ski Jump Seats Glastron? 2004 185 Price Check?

I think I might have made it sound more stripped down than it is.

Taxus got a smoking deal but this boat does come with

Auto Bilge Pump
4 Speaker Satellite Radio with CD Player
Depth Finder
Snap in Carpet
Padded Sun Lounge
Livewell
2 Fishing Chairs
Tilt Steering
Batteries - Dual w/Switch

So add 1k for the 4.3i/0 then maybe $800 for 2 years newer and that gets me to 11k? I am thinking that's the price but do people really list a boat and will take $1500 less? I have never bought something like this before of Craigslist.

Yes, especially before storage season. Just make sure to winterize it after you test drive it (if you buy it)

NADA seems to be inconsistent with the base price. The four wins Fish and Ski you also have to select each piece as an option. I bet the glastron fish and ski take that into the base price.

The things you mention are relatively standard. Auto bilge pump comes on every bowrider and has for years, depth finder again nothing to write home about, padded sun lounge on all I/o's, live well just takes the place of a cooler on the non ski/fish model, tilt steering is standard on all but the most budget boats, Dual switch is nice but again standard on a fish and ski model to run the trolling motor. The only thing on the list that surprises me is the 4 speakers since surprisingly many come with 2 and no fronts in that vintage.

There really aren't that many choices for fish and ski bowrider boats but there are a lot of fishing boats that have a windshield and can easily perform the ski duties.

As for Craigslist, I wouldn't worry. I buy many large ticket items off of there. I bought my sig boat from the president of U.S. Bank (not a branch...the whole company) and paid him in his top story, corner office here in Downtown Minneapolis. I've never had a bad experience on CL buying or selling anything. Surprisingly giving something away in the free section is more difficult.

Depends on location/region. It is hard to unload an I/O here unless a Yankee moves down.

Funny, I have only owned 2wd trucks - no problem at all selling them ;)

Yeah when I shopped for SUV/trucks I think I could have just asked for the keys and they would have let me drive off to get rid of them. They were all southern vehicles brought up here.

I live in SE NC. Although we do not see snow except on the weather channel there are fewer 2 wheel drive trucks here than you would think. Most commercial trucks are 4 X 4 unless known to be turning to junk soon. Many pull boats and RVs. Others have simply seen how much better resale value holds up. Maybe those 2 wheel drives you see in MN are sent there as they cannot be sold in the south?
