Fish finders, where do I start

I'll ask the experts. My old fishfinder had little fish icons that supposedly showed fish under the boat. Always kind of suspicious of those little buggers. Are the fishfinders with the little "swoosh" arcs actually more accurate than the the little fish icon models? I always feel my fishfinder is just toying with me when it shows 1 little fish shaped icon right under me. Please tell me what to buy.

all that means is there's something in the water. could be a fish, could be debris. eagle's a good brand for me

I believe you can turn off the fish ID on any locater and get only the arches to show up? You can on Lowrance models.
Today I`d shop Humminbird or foruno, my new Lowrance along with many others has glitches.

Start by telling us what SONAR you have. Then look in your Owners' Manual to see how to turn off the fish icons. If you don't have a manual ask the maker how to do it.
