So I recently purchased a hummingbird Felix fish/depth finder because the other one in my boat had a broken off transducer. I put the new transducer on and ran all my wiring up to the display screen. When I turn it on no matter where I go with the boat it reads 1ft deep of water. And a while back when I had engine problems the screen would flicker and shut off but I fixed that problem. My other problem is how far does my transducer have to hang below the back of the boat. If you put a speed square on the bottom of the transducer and the bottom of the boat they are both in line with each meaning both level with the bottom of the boat. Do I need to drop the transducer lower than the bottom of the boat by a little bit?it's exactly in the same place as the old transducer was.im using the same screw holes from where the old transducer bracket was. If u need to see some pictures I can post some when I get to the marina sometime after 3pm to show where it is on the back of the boat. Thank you dan

I'm not an expert, OP, but the Helix 7 transducer I just removed on our boat sat a little below the bottom of the pontoon, positioned there by the dealer. It worked fine there as long as I didn't knock it out of whack on a stump.

When I did mine, the instructions were very specific. Are your instructions not?

If you're trying to use the old mounting holes and they won't permit you to mount it in the correct spot, you may need some sort of bracket to extend it down. Preferably made of something that won't corrode.

I didn't make any holes and there are no holes in my transom.
I used a product called Stern Saver. It's a kit with a block that looks like Starboard. It has everything you need to glue it to your transom. Then you screw into that. It's been there for 10 years with no problems.

Maybe you can mount the Stern Saver over the existing holes. Then mount your new transducer to the Stern Saver.

So thank you for the help and support. The information u gave me helped out alot and everything is now working properly even when the boat is up on plane it still reads my depth. That's what I really needed to know was how deep of water I was running in and again it's working so thank you.
