I have been reading through the forumns all morning and i have learned alot. I already ordered the 3M super duty rubbing compound and the 3m finess for my new project.

Its a 1973 Orrion Open bow tri-hull, with a ford 302 V8, and a volvo pinta outdrive. The stringers and floor are all in great condition. The upholstery was shot as was the carpet. The transom and outdrive are in good shape as well. The motor needed some TLC from sitting for over 5 years i.e; tune up, fuel filter, oil change and filter, starter silinoid, battery and a new ignition.

Im looking for ideas for this boat? I have not been able to find any pictures of any others like it. I am also a novice and need to choose an easier route but i still wish to attain a good looking boat. Let me know what you think.

These are the pics of when i first got the boat.

These are the pics after i gutted the carpet, upholstery and gave the engine a bath and tune up. I also took some rust remover to the trailer and hit it with a can of paint.

Rebuilt the engine cover and varnished it with marine grade varnish, semi-gloss.

Took some cleaner polishing compound i had and put some elbow grease into it. Here are the results:

Let me know what you think. Id really like it if anyone had any photos of another boat like this.

Thanks,

Lookin good wayno! Nice score with all good wood! You will love those 3M products, you can count on that! You might want to pic up a buffer if you don’t already have one, it will make a world of difference.

When reattaching the engine cover, you might want to think about getting some hardware that just holds the cover in place like some kind of latch instead of the normal hinges on the front that make it so the cover is still in your way. That way you can just pop them off and move the cover to the bow and have full access without having to take all the screws out of the hinges.

Also, if your going to just buy some pre-built seats (which is a cheap easy way to go), an upholster should be able to match the fabric and upholster your engine cover to match! This would be real nice if you’re going to be building some bow cushions.

Also when your posting pics, enclose the url inside of [ img]imageurl.com[/img] so that it will show up without having to click on it.

ebay has sweet back to back seats, with matching jump seats for the back, be carefull on the jumpseats, make sure you have enough room with the dog house. personally i'd use and non skid surface inside rather than carpet.

Or if you get fancy, have it so one side of the jump is a step with a non-skid surface (like the carpet alternatives) and the other side a cushion.

Re: First Restore Job1973 Orrion 17ft

Any tips on applying new fiberglass? I am going to throw down some arround the dog house and add some to re-enforce the side walls as well as cover up the old holes from the seats.

Any tips appreciated.

Also if anyone has built custom seating in a boat like this id like to see what you did. I have some ideas but nothing is set in stone as of now.

Thanks,

look at ebay item # 230036375251. set of back to back seats with the 2 jump seats. complete package, $459. he has several colors. your bow seats are easy to make your self. cut the plywood base foam, and cover using stainless staples.

For the Doghouse you can line it with dynamat with a reflective surface. That will keep the noise down considerably. As far as jump seats in the back of the boat you could make platforms from plywood and make the seats. In my past boats I have never had used my jump seats enough to justify them. They always looked good but not used.

Your buffing work is paying off and looks good!

TIP: When adding photos use the Image box the little square one (looks yellow and has a small mountain in it) and your photos will appear in your post as pictures and not links.

Consider epoxy vs polyester resin (search this forum) and that will either help you or confuse you!!
