The wife and I finally decided to break down and buy a boat. We ended up choosing a 2001 Tahoe 202 deckboat. When we went to the dealership the boat looked real nice and had a 125 HP Mercury on it. Well after puttin it on the water we decided that it was way underpowered. The dealer kept telling that I should just buy it with the 125 and then try to find someone interested in a trade or buy the 150-200 and then try and sell the 125 myself.

Two weeks later he calls me and says he needs me to stop by and check the boats out again. Just the size alone on the new engine was amazing. We put it on the water that day and I was sold. If you drop the throttle you are out of the hole screaming across the lake in less than 3 seconds. I am not sure what the top speed is because the speedo aint working (dealer ordered parts), but I would imagine that it is hitting low to mid 50's.

Now to my question for you guys... When I bought the boat the dealer did not have the faceplate to the CD player. Can I buy just the face plate or should I just get a whole new deck. The dealer is going to fix that for me too but I wanna know the options so I can tell him what I would prefer.

Any pointers or questions for me just let me know.

Hey lil'toy...Welcome to iBoats!

Glad to hear you're dealer is working hard to please you. I would wait for the dealer to replace the faceplate and anything else wrong with your boat (speedo). I assume it's under warranty and won't charge you for it. Otherwise, search for it on eBay and see if there's a match otherwise your kind of stuck getting a new one. I can't imagine anyone would sell just the faceplate, though.

Good luck and happy boating!:)

Just out of curiosity, was your dealer a Bass Pro Shop?

Re: FIRST BOAT - 2001 Tahoe 202

I bought a 2001 Tahoe 202 I/O in 2001. Although mine has the 5.0 L 220 HP it is the same as yours except with a little more power. It has been a good boat and I have had "0" problems with engine or outdrive. I did have to replace the radio last year. Chances are even if you can find a faceplate, the radio will most likely have some issues. I replaced mine with a Pyle marine unit. It is twice the radio that was in the boat originally. Bought it from Overtons. I'm thinking it was around 129.00 It came with 2 new speakers so I bought 2 more and replaced them all. Probably find your best deal on Ebay. By the way, I also had to replace the speedo head with the radio.

What motor did you end up getting?

On my '08 Q6, the fuse panel is behind the guages.

On the deck, I'd go with a replacement, it'll be easier to find, and new is better than old and rebuilt (especially with some

So how did this turn out for you? I was confused about the warranty comment, it was a 2001, right?
