Hello,
I have a 1994 Johnson 150. Model # J150 EXERV. Used on Friday and ran fine. Saturday would not Start. It kicks off and thats it. Was thinking ignition, all checks out OK, has good fire. Thinking Fuel now. Any ideas? I am a do it your self person and have always worked on my stuff myself.
Thanks Frank

Frank, I do not understand your post. Does the motor fire and then die? if so, are you holding the choke button (or pushing key in) down until she starts? Does the Quickstart systems still function? Have you tried advancing the throttle (throttle only button) when coldstarting?

Chris, Yes, the engine fires for about a second, kicks the starter out and thats it. It will do the same thing time after time. Yes I do Choke momentarily, other wise it will only crank over. I don't understand the Quickstart System. Will try to read up on this evening. Thanks for the Reply. Any other information would be appreciated. Frank

put some premix in a spray bottle and spray it into the open carbs it it fires off and runs for a few seconds you have a fuel problem, or try a new fuel tank with fresh fuel. You may well have water or trash in your fuel.

Hold the choke closed until she starts and runs a bit. It sounds like it needs a bit more choke. Quickstart is supposed to increase idle speed when motor is cold. You should see about 1100 RPM at idle, when Quickstart is working. After warm up, motor will drop to 850-900RPM at idle, or maybe less.

Hello,
I have ruled out all fuel issues. The engine is getting fuel, no problem there. After reading info and other diagnosis. I think it might be a problem in the power coil on the stator. It would have to be the most difficult electronic part to work on! These forums are great, I have never used one before. Have gained lots of knowledge and info from it. Any comments on the power coil/stator idea? Thanks Frank

Frank, I am not sure what a power coil/stator is. On some of those motors, battery voltage is fed to the powerpack when the ign key is in the start position. Maybe that is a factor?
