4.3 omc cobra i/o
I was on the lake yesterday for about three hours. boat's running great. one my of my friends shows up with his boat so i go to follow him across the lake to a beach so we can all hang out. I'm running about 30mph 3/4 throtttle. then, all of a sudden, it sounded like someone threw some blackcats in the engine compartment. it dies completely. takes a a few minutes before it will even start again. once it starts, i can only get it just in gear. anything more, and it dies. i limp up to the ramp. while my buddy's in line to pull the trailer in i descide to give it a go. i accelerated very gently and got it up to about twentyfive, but it was sputtering and coughing every five seconds which would cause it to almost die. There's a strange thing i haven't noticed until now: an orange vacum-looking tube running from the bottom of the fuel pump up to around the carb. it looks like it might have come loose from something, but for the life of me i can't find anything. any help, or ideas would be great.
thanks guys- ryan

That's your "insurance" tube. Goes up to the carb and dumps the excess fuel from the blown diaphragm in the fuel pump, rather than dumping it into the bilge and creating gas fumes under the engine cover. Make sure there's no gas leaking from it.
