Finally bought my first boat!

I've lurked here for a few months, lots of good info. Finally bought a boat last night and figured it was time to register. I scored an awesome deal off Craigslist on a 12' Lund with a trailer, 2 stroke outboard, electric motor, oars and a fish finder.

I'm sure I'll have a few newbie questions here soon, no promises that I won't sound like a moron or ask a dumb question or two - I apologize in advance...

Can't wait to get out fishing!

Welcome aboard. Take a safe boater course. You'll be really glad you did. iboats is a great source of info, help, and troubleshooting. Make sure you've got all your safety gear secured before you get out on the water. You won't ask any dumb questions. There are no dumb questions. Don't feel funny about asking anything here.

That looks like a great boat! You'll find that Lunds are very well made and will serve you well for years to come. What are your plans with it? Are you going to modify it at all? What do you plan to use it for? I've got a 16' Lund like that and love crabbing on the sound and fishing small lakes. That boat of yours will be very versatile for you.

Thanks for the responses. I plan to do the washington boaters course sometime soon, just picked up lifejackets and a few other misc things for the boat last weekend.

Good to know there are some local people on the board! Not too sure what I plan to do with the boat in the future. For now I just plan to put fear into the hearts of trout and bass in the local whatcom county lakes. Got pretty tired of trying to dock/shore fish last year.

Nice little boat there.

Shore fishing does get old, won't be long and you will be wanting a bigger boat with more stuff, once you start there is no end.

I started in a 12' jon with a 9.9 and then moved up to a 16'er with a 50, seems to fit me fine untill some more kids move out then I will probably step up again.

Welcome, congratulations on your new boat. What kind of motor did you get with it ??? Safe boating course and carrying the correct safety equipment are a must in my opinion. Footitis will take effect very soon after you start using your new boat. There is no known cure for this but the symptoms can be temporarily relieved by purchasing a boat around 24 inches or so longer than the one you currently own. This will relieve the symptoms again for a short time and the process will repeat !!!

READ READ READ is the best advice. Read about the safety, read about the motor maintenance and read about re-packing the wheel bearings on the trailer (often neglected).

Congrats on the new boat, you'll enjoy it. We got our first boat last Spring. I do a lot of fishing and sometimes find myself throwing a couple of lines in and falling asleep out on the water.
