Hello all. What is the best product to use to fill old screw holes, both above the water line and below, on a fiberglass bass boat? My boat has accumulated several holes over the last few years from various equipment: fish finders, seats, rod holders, etc. I am sanding it down in preparation for a new clear coat, and would like to fill all of the various holes. The boat is gray with silver, brown, and blue fleck.

Doesn't have to look perfect, just need to get the job done. Thanks for any help you can give!

Another vote for Marine Tex.

I used it to fill screw holes that were through the hull. Before filling, I chamfered the edges of the hole from the outside so there was more surface area for the epoxy to grip. None of the filled holes has loosened up or leaked.

Re: Filling old screw holes in a fiberglass boat.

thanks guys. marine-tex it is. my boat is white below the water line, and gray with silver fleck above. i was think about using the white colored marine tex for the white parts, and the gray marine-tex for anything above water.

will this work, or should i use white all over, and tint the gray with a gray pigment? Does that make any sense? I guess what I'm asking, is there any chemical difference between the gray and white marine-tex. thanks for the help. ac.

As I understand it, gray is fast-curing, no difference in the finished product. But I've only used white. If the gray matches your hull, I'd say you got the best of both worlds.
