I just bought a boat with a really bad fiberglass job on the transum and as a relult some of it is breaking off causing holes and exposing some wood. It is in a really bad spot (next to the engine mount) so i can not re-fiberglass it. is there something elst i can use to fill in the holes and protect the wood?

Post some pictures of the damage and these guys will fix you right up. . .

I am not an expert, but my two cents would be to start searching on threads dealing with taking core samples.

yeah ....were gonna need pics on this one....im not following the location of the damage......but.....if the glassing job is bad....you can coat it all you want....but you wont stop the glass from de laminating. so anything you put over the bad glass job will come off.....BUT....there are a few tricks we can do ! :)

You'll probably need to pull the engine and fix it right.

If you are seeing delamination it is probably from a rework that used polyester resin. Unfortunately poly resin doesnt adhere to itself even if the surface was carefully prepped, and this doesnt sound like the case.
It will get worse.
If you want to it right pull the engine, strip the old transom out to bare hull, replace with epoxy coated marine plywood (1/2" if it is an shaft drive , 3/4 if it is an IO)and then 2 plys of 18oz. biax cloth using epoxy resin. ( ALOT OF WORK )

why cant you just re-glass it?

do you have to use a special marine type?
