This is my first post on iboats.com. I have read many posts and have picked up on some very good information.

I have to replace the transom and floor in my 1986 4winns 170. I am doing the work in my garage which is attached to the house. I don't want a lot of fumes in the house. I can vent with the overhead door 3/4 open and fans in windows. What resin do you suggest I use epoxy or polyester? I have access to both and I am working on a budget. I do have access to West System epoxy at a reduced price but still over 50% more than polyester.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you.

If you do your grinding outdoors, and lay up epoxy indoors, you shouldnt have a fume problem...

us composites may save you a few bux on epoxy resin/cat

If your boat was made with poly...I'd use poly....fumes aren't that bad if you keep the house door closed and the fumes venting outdoors...

my advice would be to tarp that area completely off. The dust is HORRIBLE. Try and keep it confined. I tarped in the boat and put a big dayton blower in the window and blew as much outside as possibe. The dust will get on everything. Take some time up front to seal that working space off as well as possible.
