Anybody know where to purchase preformed fiberglass pedestal / box seat bases? I see many boats have them, but I cannot locate anybody that sells an aftermarket type. Any help would be appreciated

I've actually seen them on Ebay. If you can't find any current auctions, do a search for completed listings.

Thanks for the response and the welcome,

What I was looking for was a fiberglass base (box shaped) that would be mounted to the floor and a swivel and seat could be attached to the top. I saw one on e-bay but was looking for something taller. A quick check on line resulted in a company in Australia as the only one offering this product.

Hi,

I was just like you ! I had seen many factory boats, most especially smaller "stick steered" bass boats WITH JUST THAT FIBERGLASS "BOX STYLE" PEDESTAL YOU ARE LOOKING FOR !! And boy let me tell ya that was a real "hunting expedition" but I finally found some aftermarket !! They offer only two styles, and one of those is pretty cool because it has a bucket holder for your minnow bucket right next to your seat. Here's where I found them :

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Fibe...at_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item4ceab93733

It's gotten so anymore when I'm striking out big time on finding something, I go to Ebay !! SOMEBODY ON THERE HAS PROBABLY GOT IT !! Hope this helps.

Re: fiberglass box / pedestal seat bases

Just came across this thread during a google search.

Im also looking for a fiberglass seat base but have had no luck at all.

I dont want something small for a bass boat. I would like something larger that extends back behind the seat as well.
Im wanting drawers or slots for tackle trays in the sides under the seat and a built in baitwell behind the seat.

If anyone has an idea where i could find something like that please let me know asap.

I'm looking for something similar to this.

I have no idea where you can buy those, but you just gave me a great idea for a building project. I like that little built-in storage/cooler and may have a try at making one.

Check out Starcraft Islander restorations in the forums by manufacturers - Starcraft. Or this forum. Also check out member Jasoutside's thread. He is integrating a cooler in his seat mount...Lots of good ideas around to make your own. Hope this helps!

Re: fiberglass box / pedestal seat bases

I would love to be able to make some seat bases but i have no clue where to begin.
I've done a few repair projects with fiberglass but never making something from scratch.
Im trying to do some research on how to go about this.

Cage Rattler,

I am sort of new to the process of fiberglass boat building, but I have been a cabinetmaker for some time. I have a similar idea for my boat, as I would like storage under my pedestal seats.

Couldn't you just build a box out of plywood, to whatever shape or configuration you are looking for, and then just wrap it in fiberglass and then tab it to the deck.

Another option would be to mount some angle iron/aluminum to the deck (everything sealed, of course) and then bolt your fiberglass wrapped box to the pieces of angle.

I'm not sure how much a box like the one you have pictured would cost new, but I would guess that it would be more than you would pay for some plywood and fiberglassing materials, and you would have to go with whatever features the company decided to design it to have. If you build your own, you could make the box under one seat a cooler, for instance, and the box under the other seat a storage for tackle trays.

Building a simple box is fairly easy, and wrapping the box in fiberglass and applying a gelcoat are probably all things you could tackle.

Another nice thing about building it yourself is that you could build it for your perfect seat height, based on the height of your pedestal mount.

Just thought I would chime in.

Not sure if this helps but there are places like this that will make what you want, but again you could just as well make what you desire. I know they are live wells but they are local to me and will build you the pedestal you desire.

Little clicky thingy

Re: fiberglass box / pedestal seat bases

Mounting it wont be a problem at all on my boat because it has a fiberglass floor with easy access underneath the floor.
Theres large storage areas under my deck.

I know i could build them with plywood and glass and either paint them or gelcoat them but one thing i hate to do is ALOT OF SANDING...lol.

Im trying to do some research right now on how to make a mold to create these. If I'm not mistaken, there will be little to no sanding needed by doing it that way, correct??

Im thinking i could find a large rubbermade or similar storage tote to start making a mold out of.

As I said, I've never done anything like this so if anyone can point me to some links, that will give some good info on this type of project, i would appreciate it. I keep looking for info on making a fiberglass box but keep coming up with making subwoofer enclosures.
