I am restoring a 1982 G/W 19'. I have put in new stringers and repaired the transom. The stringres are now glassed and I am ready to put on the deck. For moisture control should I paint the under side of the deck or fiberglass it with mat and resin? After reading most of the FOAM info. I am inclined to opt out for putting it under the floor. Does anyone know if G/W relied on the foam for structural reasons? I will be puting GEO foam in the sides, under the bow, and at the transom? Does this sound like a reasonable thing? Thanks in advance

Re: Fiberglass an moisture questions

Most folks put a coat of resin on the bottom of the deck... dont mix it real hot so it will have time to soak into the wood before it cures....

glass the underside....just a thin layer of csm.....

the reason is ....the resin is brittle and will crack....with the matt, will reinforce the resin....just takes a second and it will last forever.

as far as the foam.......what was there?....just duplicate it....
if there was foam in the hull that was next to the glass and "kind of holding it in shape" then it needs to be replaced
