Fiber Sanding Disc Tip

While fairing out the hard top, the fiber sanding discs tend to load up with epoxy and it ruins the disc for further sanding. This morning I went out to continue working on the top and saw a few discs loaded up that were otherwise not worn out. Thats about $2 a disc out the window. So I decided to see if they could be saved and took the loaded discs to the bench grinder that has a wire wheel on it and in no time at all, the discs were clean and ready for more sanding duty! Whoo Hoo! Saves me a trip down town and a few dollars in new discs.

This may or may not work with PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) discs, or the hook and loop discs, because the wire wheel might tear them up. But it works great on the tough fiber backed discs. The wire wheel took off the epoxy but left the grit behind.

Ok Bob, I gave it a try. I've been rubbing old sneakers all over the top for the last hour and they don't sand nearly as well as the power sander does.

:D

* Looks at my two left feet and wonders what to do next * :D

I just throw those clogged grinding disks into a small bucket of acetone ( my soak ) .. cleans em puppies right up.

OH..and before I get slammed with " oh you cant to that .. the will break down and explode ! I not once had one fail.

I did however have a 7" rubber backing pad blow into chunks from getting it too hot. Whoa was that scary man....

Peace YD.
