I wonder if I am alone in my feeling about I/O drives. I have come to the point that my next boat will be a straight Inboard system.

The I/O just has too many subsystems and points of failure built into them. It is almost as if Mercruiser and others designers built a system specifically to keep Marina workshops in business.

Well they lost another.

I see My Only options as Outboard,.. Or Outdrive........

Being a Trailerboater,...And the versatility in different water conditions.......

I'll run some more outboards on some boats,... But My Main Barge is Going to be Sterndriven,........ By Mercruiser........... ;)

Straight inboards come with their own set of maintenance problems. Dog clutches are a b*tch and no reverse, velvet drives require maintenance, can't trim or tilt, rudders don't respond as well as a pivoting leg, rudders/shafts/props get damaged regularly, same cooling problems, same exhaust problems, stuffing box problems.

So you've had a bad run - get a VP ;)

Aldo

them black anchors made me a lot of money over the years, but then so do all the rest. nice thing about it is they all break. just seems if its black and sticks out the back it breaks more. mostly cause people think its just a car engine so they neglect them to death.
