I'm finishing up my Johnson 18hp 1957 FD-11. When I go to put on the cover plate to the shift level connector, the screws thread in but don't tighten. They just keep spinning. What's the best way to fix this, (heli coil, go the the next screw size up, epoxy)? Wondering what other people have tried with success.

Used a heli-coil on one this summer.-----First time in many years that a motor arrived with that 10-24 thread stripped.

Thanks for the response! Now I need to order a heli coil kit for a 10-32 thread.

Gee, how often do you take that cover off? Melted zip tie works for a few years, and it is so much easier than drilling and retapping.
