With the new malware, you can get infected just by visiting a malicious website; no clicking on anything there is required. It's called a drive-by infection.

Only if you have your browser set up incorrectly, if it can't execute, it can't infect you, think javascript and flash!

I have a Windows 7 PC running McAfee and have never been infected. Yes I pay for it but in this case, you don't get what you pay for. ;)

Well guess what...I still have the virus. So far i have been able to determine that it disables the user control panel and setting's...Disables defender..now how it ran caught it..dunno... after the cleaning at start up its right back again..At startup you can see it load into the directoty. Emisoft thinks they have a solution....IF this does not work.....Time for nukes...reformat.

And only if you're using Windows............I can not understand for the life of me why some will not try Linux.

It's like buying a completely piece of junk car, having the SAME problem over and over and again, and buying another one JUST LIKE IT instead of replacing it with a different car, You cannot continue to blame javascript and flash for the for the poor (or nearly non-existent) MS security. Neither javascript nor flash causes the same problems in UNIX or Linux.

I work for a company that has more than 10,000 employees and nearly 7000 computers. They WILL NOT switch to Windows Vista, 7, and I'll bet they'll be reluctant to switch to 8. I don't know what they're going to do when MS ends all patches and support for XP.........................

I'm running WinXP 2002 that I never let windows update it. :)

Run ShieldsUP and see how secure you are on the net. https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

Click Proceed and then on All Service Ports.

Heres my test. [SIZE=-1]

ALL PORTS tested were found to be:
TruStealth.

OK. But you didn't indicate what you're using for a router. Your stealth status is NOT dependent on your computer. It's dependent on your router.

What router are you using?

Well,

I have 11 computers running in the house here, some with Linux and some with windows, I have my windows systems set up to run correctly and have never been infected with a virus, malware, pop ups, etc. I am my wife's tech support for her internet business, and have never had any problems.

The biggest problem now a days, is people are reactive and not proactive, when I buy a new computer, it gets wiped, it gets set up again, to my specifications and I have never had a problem.

I started my online days, on an Atari 2600 and a Commadore Vic 16, so have been doing this quite a while.

Yeah. If you just use a little common sense and set up a Winders box right, have your anti-virus software update itself and do a scan every day, (and never open a suspicious email) you'll usually be fine.....THEN make sure you defrag the thing once a month or so everything will run just peachy.

Oh, don't try to USE your computer when it's scanning or defragging....If you do, you'll find out what SLOW REALLY means!!!.....(leave it on all night so it can do that on the back side of the clock.....maybe MS will fix that wonderful file system someday....)

For anyone that is wondering what Linux is..... click on the following links.:eek::eek: Don't worry, they're safe for windows.....:p

11 hack's were found and two tool bar program's. 14 hours No more activity but i still cannot access windows defender.

Ahh and the flash player is no longer...The scanner ate it..

Go to someone elses computer and download Ubuntu and burn it to a CD.

Boot your computer up on Ubuntu selecting the "try without installing" feature.

Use Ubuntu to copy your files over to a thumb drive or USB hard drive.

You can then save all your files before you are unable to "fix" anything!

Good luck!

Re: FBI Locked my computer virus..Beware its evolved

It ended with a wrecked system. Flash was gone and could not be repaired..defender could not be loaded...i could not run ipconfig nor could i ping my location..i could not access my router..found a babalyon tool bar that could not be deleted and it also seemed to corrupt my network setting's along with the UAC. Emsisoft did clear a lot of the virus but the os was in shambles.. At least 4 win32 worm's 3 tool bars what ever hit it was massive.

Even the reformat went incredibly slow. Reactivating the OS i was asked if the window copy was on another system. I wish a live operator was there i could have ranted a bit on security.

I have been running Ubuntu for years and love, love it. I am having a few problems with the latest 12.04LS but hopefully the bugs will be corrected in time.....still it beats the pants off of Windows. I use a dual boot with 2 HDs so I can still toggle to Windows when I need to run Autocad

As posted this was a nasty virus. Micro soft has released a huge update for win 7 mostly security related. Do your up dates this was a basic system 32 attack and destroyed my os.. As much as i hate to admit this Linux...i am not a rebel without a cause..but MS you need to step it up a bit. This hack was not some college kid having fun nor some maverick loner showing off.
