Fastwin prop play

I have little to no experience with outboard motors. This 18 hp fastwin I got for my inflatable seems like a basket case. I dropped the lower unit to replace the impeller and got real curious about the amount of play I found in the prop. I literally cannot get the screws to budge holding to case together, so I can't readily take a peak inside. The prop will rotate, in either direction and in neutral forward or reverse, one prop blade as much as 90 degrees, or one blade from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock position before engaging anything. My gut is saying that's too much play, way too much. Any thoughts?

Oh, I removed the prop to eliminate the bushing in the prop, same amount of play at the prop shaft. I took a video, let's see if I can upload it.

That is all normal.-----Nothing is wrong here.

Really? I'm used to aircraft, anything that sloppy would be a no-go, or a go depending on the airline lol

Let me give a quick run down on issues I've found, let me know what you guy's think..

Lot's of corrosion.
Broken head bolt, will require drilling out and helicoil.
Water jacket with tons of corrosion, after head removal.
Tiller arm missing some hardware, easy enough fix.
Rusted SOLID tilt pin thingy. I actually snapped the end off trying to get it to move after a wd-40 soak. I'll need to cut it out and find another one.
I'm afraid to look at the crank..
"Newly replaced" thermostat is a mass of corrosion, easy enough I guess.
Gear oil was milky for a second, then nice and black. ???
Missing some bushing where the driveshaft enters lower unit, rubber/brass perhaps. I saw it somewhere online, would have to look again.
Paint flaking off of powerhead, I must assume it's been overheated before.

I'm sure there is something else. Didn't bother testing compression... :/

I do have a service manual and parts catalog to work with.

You are getting some free advice from someone who has repaired these motors since 1968, but that is not good enuff I guess.

Thanks for the advice, I'm not doubting you at all. I just find it interesting is all.. I'm glad to hear it's normal, I was very concerned.
