Merc Mariner 150V (1984 i think off the top of my head)
Oil inject but before they added the inline filter

When I turn the key to run (not yet starting the motor) I get a second long beep then a really fast beeping. At first I was thinking it was oil and I did need to prime the onboard tank, but comparing to youtube videos on oil issues, this seems to be a much faster beeping than any of those.

Further update after more testing.
Key on did not cause a beeping alarm at first last night. After a minute or two in the on position without the motor it would start beeping (assuming just a "hey you forgot your key" alarm)

On startup I have good water flow coming out and can see oil moving in the tubes (more on that in a minute). After another minute or two the beeping starts.

  • Checked continuity on the reservoir float.
    • No sound with the cap screwed down. Lift the cap and get sound. Float is good
  • Checked the alarm module and oil pump sensor.
    • White wire has 12V. Pulled the coils and grounded. Hand cranked while measuring the blue wire from the oil pump. Getting 5V. Seems like the oil pump motion sensor is good
One question I have is, is it ok to have air in the oil line? I see a large bubble at the oil inject that gets larger as the motor runs then refills but not completely at shutdown. Also, is there some way this would trigger the alarm?
