So, does anyone have an opinion on what's a fair price to pay or receive for a 1966 era johnson 5hp seahorse.....the thing runs perfect, new tune up, looks great?
thanks
Keep in mind, it's not old enough to be an antique, but too old to be sure of getting parts and service. Even if it runs great, I wouldn't part with more than $75 for it. It's not like buying fine wine, these things don't necessarily get more valuable with age.
BTW, antique outboard collectors are a notoriously cheap lot.
I agree with Wild. Ebay tends to drive up the price, and since you are bidding against the world, local economy does not play into it. $75 and maybe $100 if it's really sweet. I picked up a 15HP last fall in similar shape for $150. If the tuneup included points, coils, condensers and a water pump it might be worth more as the parts are worth around $100 alone. Rick
I paid $150 for the 5hp with a tank and $50 for the 40hp with a tank and wiring. Whatever you're willing to pay is a good price....to you. The 75hp was free.....kind of. It has over $200 in paint now.
