Have a 150HP Mercury 1996 model carburated, Oil injection is disconnected properly. Alarm is only for overheating. I heard a faint alarm last time out, looked at temp gauge, looked OK, turned engine off anyway for up to 1 hour. Turn on key and there it is again (temp now reading 50 degrees less). What do you think I should look at, I'm thinking a short somewhere or bad sensor. Thanks in advance.

I agree with your theory, Grandx. It could be a bad sender too. To check the sender, disconnect the wire from it,and with an ohm meter, check it for zero continuity between the terminal and engine ground.<br />If you have any continuity at all, the sender should be replaced.
