F200 Impeller Change

Hi,

I recently bought a boat with a 2005 yamaha f200txr & wanted to replace the impeller. I bought an oem kit from yamaha to do it and I could not get it to **** afterward. I replaced the impeller, the metal wear ring it sits in, a few O rings & the metal jacket on top to lock it in. Kept the original plastic housing as the kit did not include one.

after getting the lower back on I ran the motor for 15-20 seconds from cold & then waited a few mintues and did the same thing but no water. I then dropped the whole unit & redid the job/ double checked my work but still the same thing afterward. I dont know too much about these specific motors so I was trying to be extra cautious about overheating. I hooked up the freshwater flush & it pissed immediately so there is no blockage.

ive been using muffs up to this point & ive seen it **** water using them but wondering if that could be part of the problem

Buddy has twin F150 on his boat.
One will pee be on muffs, the other will not

got it. I guess I was more concerned that it did pee on the muffs prior to replacement but it definitely needed changing. going to try it in a bucket later

if there are signs of the plastic housing melting, you should replace that.
also did you make sure the damper parts in the housing were in good shape and in place.
(Where water tube heading up to power head go into)

Years ago I had a Yamaha 175 2 stroke. I always flushed it on muffs with no issues. I replaced the entire water pump, first time ever for me, and after putting everything back together with no extra or missing parts it would not pee on the muffs. I took everything apart again all looked good so i put it back together and still no pee. I finally took the lower unit to a dealer to show them what I did and to confirm it was right, it was. I put everything back together again and still no pee with the muffs. I took the boat to the ramp, backed it in the water started the motor and it peed fine. I have no idea why the motor peed fine with the old water pump but never did anymore after replacing the pump with an OEM kit. After that and now with my new F150 I flush the motor in a large trash can.

dropped the lower in a bucket & it started pumping water. I let it warm up in the bucket with the freshwater flush attached for a minute or so. When I disconnected the freshwater flush it continued to pump water so I believe the problem is solved.

If it didn't pee in the bucket, I was going to suggest some blockage just after the impeller. If you haven't done it, take off the intake screen in the lower unit. You'll be surprised some of the debris that makes it in there. Be careful when tightening the screw, as you can easily break the screen (ask me, I know).

Since it peed in the bucket, is it possible that you had a kink in the hose or didn't have the water spigot turned up enough for the muffs to get water into the motor? Sometimes it can be something simple.

Last fall spring I tore a snowmobile carburetor down three separate times before realizing that I kept attaching the wrong fuel line. Brain fart moments...
