Re: Eye Glass ?

When you say transition do you mean photochromic? i've found that those do not darken enough for the Texas sun.
I have lately aquired a pair of progressive bi-focals,those are the ones with the no line feature,no problem so far but for driving and outdoor uses, i have a pair of the regular bi-focal sunglasses with a polarizing filter, they're wonderful, especially when i'm out fishing.

I only wear my glasses from september to december (hunting season). They have the transition lenses and I like them better than my old ones that didn't have them.

Progressive lenses, tri-focals, transitions...man its tough to get old. :p

As far as transitions go, I agree with EF, there is quite a bit of glare out on the water with transitions. Prescription polarized is the only way to go if you are on the water a bunch. I'm asked this question a lot and just checked with our lense specialist to see if any improvements have been made in the regard and he said no.

Also, if this is the first time for bi-focals try progressive lenses first before hard lines. Its more difficult to get used to them AFTER training your eye to hard line bi and tri-focals.

Good luck!!! :)

Re: Eye Glass ?

If you're talking about the Brand Name, Transitions Lens,
A Bud of mine bought them.........
He Hated them..... They Don't Work, when you're sitting in your car......
Seems that the glass in our vechicles today has some UV ressistence built into it.....
Without the UV light, the transitions lens Don't Change...........

He went back,+ had new lens cut from the Old Photochromic stuff............
I guess they're triggered by the Brightness of light, rather than the UV content.......

Re: Eye Glass ?

I think you are talking about the so-called "no line bifocals", SBN. Not the photochromic (lousy) sunglasses.

I tried them for about a month and hated them. I went back to bifocals.

Good luck. :)

Re: Eye Glass ?

Well I need a dark pair also, so I guess I will have to go with the 2 pair system. I was hoping to find something that would change with the brightness, but I don't need any glare neither.

Transitional lenses work for me. Since I was told I'd need reading glasses I freaked out. My work and hobbies demand I read a lot so having two pairs of glasses or bi-focals was frightening. My daughter makes these for a living so it didn't cost me much. She made me a spare pair to leave at home and even managed to make me one pair that were just the single setting for distance, these I use whan being a tourist.
Took a while to get used to them but wouldn't be without them now.
Ross

Re: Eye Glass ?

I've been wearing "no line" trifocals almost since they came out. I like them and only for a short - 2 week or so - period of adjusting to them, have had zero problems with them. I was going to try the "transition" darkening lens - but the opticial told me just what Bondo said - - they don't work in modern cars - any reputable shop should tell you that.

I have progressive bifocals and I like them. Less than $200 for exam, lenses, and frames. Only thing is, you gotta come to Ghana to get them.

Did get a pair of perscription polarized glasses a few years ago, not right perscription any more, but I still use them on the lake - great for fishing.

Thanks all for the replies and advice.
I am going to get 2 pair of no-line bi-focals, 1 plain and 1 polarized for my outdoor stuff.
About 150 bucks including the exam for the first pair and 97 bucks for the second pair.

OK guys, not sure how many are aware, but if ya need bi-focals, you can get Bi-focal Contacts...I don't wear them, but a friend got some...they are designed with little dots, some allow focus far away, some allow focus up close...really wild...what will they think up next...maybe transitioning bi-focal contacts w/built in hearing aids????? The deluxe model could include timed release Viagra drops built in...so ya can look HARD!!!!!
