Hello All,

I have an older gass tank that came with the setup when I goit it. It is 6 Gallons and has seen better days. My question is does the fuel knob have to have some some way of letting air in or out of it? This morning I went into the gareage and heard some noise come from the tank. I opened the knob on the top and all the perssure came out. On the top of the knob you can see there is a dot but it is welded to the knob. I like this tank because it is high and not so wide, so it dosent take up much space. I couldnt find one like this at Bass Pro, Cabelas, and local Marine store. All they have are the plastic ones.

Do I need a new one?

Thanks

Re: Extenal Gas Tank

Ayuh,... Although the EPA don't seem to think so,...
All fuel tanks have to be Vented, or the motor can't draw fuel from it...

I've seen worse tanks, still in service,...
If it ain't rusted through, 'n Leakin',... Run it...

The Hissin' ya heard is because of the temp difference, as gas expands, 'n contracts, Alot with changin' temps...

Btw,... yer picture is to small/ far away to see the detail...

The only time that tank is vented is when the fuel line is connected. They will build pressure without the line connected. If it's working good, use it.

The tank vents during operation only.

Look where the fuel line attaches.

There is a small spring loaded pin next to the fuel inlet.
When the hose is attached, the little pin is pressed in, and the vent is open.

They stopped making that type years are due it being out of metal and a static electricity charge can make a spark and cause a fire if a leak or fumes are around just be aware of that.

They've done lots of stuff with gas tanks in the past couple years that is also just as stupid :p
