What harm can be done to the engine if it is run with the exhaust boot not connected to the outboard side of a mercruiser 888? The engine started fine at home and after putting in but wouldn't turn over after shutting the engine off at the dock. I saw some post where the engine had gotten water in the cylinders. Could this happen from the boot being off? Arrggh! Had to be pulled back to the dock. The engine would not turn over. 1975 Mercruiser 888.
