Last run I have a exhaust shutter ticking... is this a noise to be concerned with. It goes away at higher rpms but at idle is noticeable with the engine cover off. Should I R and R? Don't some engines not have these?
Thanks

Re: exhaust shutter ticking

You can probably do nothing and not have any issue. The rattle is because the rubber edge of the flapper has been melted away, and now the metal is touching the inside of the exhaust pipe. I will guess that the flapper is less effective againt an upsurge of water this way, but maybe not enough to make a difference. If the noise bothers you that much, fix it. If it doesn't, don't. Good luck and happy boating.
