Exhaust manifold crack

After replacing my impeller, I tried to start the motor. It would turn over, but would not start. When I first tried to get the boat ready it would start and run fine, but I noticed it didn't seem to be circulating water, so I replaced the impeller. Today when the motor wouldn't start, I noticed a small water drip under the exhaust manifold. I could feel a small crack underneath. Is this why the motor will not start? If it is, why did it start and run before? Any help is appreciated.

No that is not why it won't start. But it is an indicator of more problems. Have you checked your oil level and color? If the manifold is also leaking on the inside it may be the reason you can not start the engine. Was the boat winterized? Block cracks usually show up on the inside under the block deck (V-8).

I did winterize it by the way I was told by the previous owner. I had changed the oil and filter about 2 weeks ago, and it still looks good.

The 64,000,000,000 question is:
How were you told to crack the block and manifolds.

How did you winterize it? How the previous owner told you is not helpful to us at all.

When running on muffs, there may not be enough volume to show up in the oil

Re: Exhaust manifold crack

When I bought the boat, the owner gave me a Marine Winter-eze for Mercruiser Alpha Stern Drive I/Os. You may already know the concept of this product. It escentially removes any old water in the engine, and replaces it with antifreeze circulating throughout the motor. I used the product as per the directions. I thought all was well. How long should it take for the engine to reach normal operating temp to allow the engine to circulate? How much water should be coming from the exhaust holes when it is properly circulating. I don't know if I am letting the engine run long enough for the water to properly circulate. Thanks
