Exhaust Issue

I recently rebuilt my Mercruiser 260 engine. I went to test the motor and have a dumb question. Is the water supposed to come out the propeller or dump out of the gap between the outdrive and transom? I put all new manifolds, Y pipe, risers and all but for the life can't remember how the water exits. All the bellows are fine also. Thanks so much for the anticipated reply.

Either one or both. Depends on how the boat is sitting. The two holes under the transom shield are idle relief ports for when the boat is in the water. Just another place for the exhaust to exit.
