Excuse my ignorance but......

Have just purchased a 87 Celebrity Calais Cuddy. How do I access the bow? Open the center window, slide open the hatch and then hike myself up on the deck? or could I build a small ladder to lean up against the dash and climb up that. Sorry for such a stupid question but this is my first "big" boat. I notice newer boats have small steps in the bulkhead/dash that help you get out on the bow.

Yep. Newer boats have steps to get on the bow. Old boats, you can either climb up and thru the window ( if it opens ), or walk around by the bow rails

On mine I use 2 methods.
1 open the centre part of the windshield, stand on a seat then sit on the dash and slide through the opening, or
2 if in calm water, walk along the 6" walkway hanging on to the window frame!!
Older cuddies were not designed for easy access to the bow:(

On my 1984 Sea Ray cuddy, I step up through the center of the windshield or I open the hatch and go up through there. I use the "refreshment area" top (it's sturdy) as a step when going through the windshield. I'd say I go through the windshield 75% of the time. I don't use the 4-inch walkway along the side of the boat while out on the water. Too easy to go for an unintended swim!
