Excessive "play" in Sea Star hydraulic steering

Hello,
I have a Sea Star hydraulic system, helm # HH6191-3 and cylinder # HC5345-3 connected to a Mercury 150 4-stroke outboard. According to Sea Star tech support, normal operation is 4.9 turns "lock to lock," which I am getting. However, when the boat is underway and the system is under load, to get the boat to turn to starboard, I have to turn the wheel nearly a full turn before the motor responds. According to Sea Star / Dometic tech support, this is normal and the "nature of the beast." It was suggested to add a trim tab, so I called Mercury tech support for the part number, but the rep I spoke with said adding a trim tab is highly unlikely to solve the problem. I have bled the system and done the integrity test, and there are no leaks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

are you sure you are not fighting v-hull wonder? all single motor I/O and OB v-hulls suffer this.

Company says your operation is NORMAL !!!
Unit is GARBAGE !! I have no idea what to suggest. Good luck with that dog.
Edit..... I would use a different power steering setup. Before someone needs to do a sudden evasive turn.
